The HyperDrive4 features impressive performance specifications, with a random access time of 1100 nanoseconds read and 250 nanoseconds write, as opposed to 8 milliseconds access time (seek time + spindle latency) for the latest 10,000 rpm SATA Hard Disks and 5.5ms for the latest 15,000 rpm SAS Hard Disks. The HyperDrive4 is a DDR SDRAM based Solid State disk. DDR is hundreds of times faster than Flash memory. It has a modular expandable design. You can start with 1GB, if you like, and build up to 32GB. The HyperDrive4 has a uniform Sustained Transfer Rate of 126 MB per second ( in a RAID 0 configuration, four HyperDrive4 can achieve a Sustainable Transfer Rate of over 400 MB/s). The HyperDrive4 is Bootable and it connects just like a Hard Disk or a CDROM, with IDE/PATA or SATA connector. It has a CDROM drive form factor, so it fits into a standard 5.25" bay. The HyperDrive4 does not require any drivers as the BIOS recognizes it as a normal storage device and is not bound to any file system or any Operating System.
